Schedule a meeting with an athenahealth expert
Clinicians and non-clinicians see a different workflow, so they can focus on the tasks they do best.
Today, you’ll experience the clinician workflow.
Jake is here for a follow-up. Your staff has already completed intake, so he’s ready for you in Exam Room 3.
Hotspots, like the one above, show you where to click to experience the athenahealth EHR. So go ahead and click here to begin.
Quickly review Jake’s allergies, medications, and medical issues. There’s even room for a personal note.
It looks like Jake’s weight and blood pressure are down.
You can also catch up on the most important details from Jake’s last visit.
Start documenting Jake’s visit.
Since Jake is here to follow up on his hypertension, click here to see his condition over time.
The story of Jake’s hypertension is all in one place, so you can review past actions and emerging trends.
Click the “Medications” tab to initiate Jake’s lisinopril refill.
Open the lisinopril flowsheet to view the prescription details…
…and click here to update the refill.
Quickly double-check for any drug interactions or warnings by clicking the purple Epocrates icon.
Only athenahealth has Epocrates drug monographs embedded in your workflow, so you can make more confident decisions.
Jake’s preferred pharmacy is already pre-populated in the order—you just need to complete the prescription information.
Click the “+” icon to add the order to the diagnosis.
Now you’re ready to pick up where you left off. Let’s toggle back to History of Present Illness to document Jake’s hypertension.
You’ve already created a hypertension template to save time. Just enter your shortcut, .htn…
…and select the follow-up template from the drop-down menu.
Then, quickly update the pre-populated template with Jake’s current status.
Done! Let’s talk to Jake about how he’s feeling today.
Jake tells you that he’s experiencing dry eyes, and that his vision has changed. Click here to note those symptoms.
Simply click on these symptoms to update your findings.
Go ahead and return to the template.
Your abnormal findings are now indicated in red.
Now, let’s start the physical exam.
Click here to enter your shortcut.
Click the template from the drop-down menu. Now you can save time, and stay focused on Jake.
Click here to document his skin tag removal.
Type “skin” into the search bar.
Then click the suggested template.
Most of the work has already been done for you. All you need to do is complete the variable fields.
Almost done! Let’s review your Assessment and Plan.
Because Jake told you that he’s experiencing dry eyes, you order a follow-up with an ophthalmologist. Click to make the referral.
Click on the search icon in the "Send to" field to view a list of ophthalmologists in the area. You’ll even be able to see which providers are on the athenahealth network.
This provider looks like the right pick for Jake.
Check “include summary of care record” to send Jake’s care history to the ophthalmologist in a clear, easy-to-digest format.
All with a single click.
Since you’ve entered all the necessary details for the orders and diagnoses, the Sign Orders button is green. Go ahead and click “Sign Orders.”
Now click “next.”
After you tell him how easy it is to use the athenahealth patient portal, Jake agrees to have the care summary sent to him there.
In the Letters section, the Meaningful Use Patient Care Summary has automatically been created. You can also see that the Summary of Care Record is listed as requested in your referral order for Jake’s ophthalmology visit.
